Advics has an "ET Robocon Club" as one of its club activities, and is working hard to do well in the ET Robocon competition, which is a competition of embedded software design technology. ET Robocon is a competition in which autonomous robots made by LEGO are used to clear various tasks such as running around a course and moving markers, and compete for time and quality. The team first participated in the competition in 1 as the "HELIOS" team, and has won the national championship six times in total. In the 2006 competition, they won the overall championship for the second consecutive year, and are now such a strong team that everyone knows about ET Robocon.

* This refers to the programs and data that execute specific tasks and operations in hardware, and is essential for all devices, including the smartphones and computers we use. In the automotive brake systems that we handle, a huge number of programs are written to achieve precise control.

Developing people and skills through ET Robocon

As a brake system supplier, we bring together mechanical, electrical and software technologies to provide products for a variety of vehicles. In recent years, as software development, such as for autonomous driving and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), has become large-scale and complex, ET Robocon has become an important forum for training software engineers, and we actively support its activities. In addition, we support the ET Robocon competition's aim of "developing world-leading engineers," and are a gold sponsor, contributing not only to the success of our team but also to the spread and expansion of the competition.

What we learn at ET Robocon also contributes to the local community

In 2016, the ET Robocon Club began offering programming education to elementary and junior high school students in Aichi Prefecture, where the company's headquarters are located, using the Lego vehicles that are also used in competitions. Although the students struggled with programming at first, they got the hang of it by using their ingenuity and ingenuity, and then engaged in heated battles with serious expressions on their faces to overcome the challenges. The club is also communicating the appeal of software design to the young people who will lead the next generation.

The thoughts of the employees involved: What the "HELIOS" team wants to achieve in the future

- What made you decide to join HELIOS?

When I joined the company as a new employee, I wanted to work on self-development outside of work, and I also thought it would be a good opportunity to learn from the knowledge and experience of talented senior colleagues, so I decided to participate.

- What to be aware of as a team leader

In order to get the best results in a limited time, I try to look at the big picture and make sure that I tackle the highest priority issues first. I also adjust my schedule to participate in as many activities as possible so that my juniors don't end up not being able to talk to me about their problems and not being able to move forward because I'm not there.

ET Robocon Club Leader Ryoichiro Yafune

- Now that you've won two consecutive championships, what goals do you have for yourself going forward?

Rather than just repeating the same things as this year, we want to be flexible in our thinking and incorporate new techniques to become a team that can liven up the tournament.

- For the future colleagues working in software who you will meet at Advics

The automotive software development we do is large-scale and complex, and the work demands high quality, making it difficult, but I feel that the sense of accomplishment and opportunities for growth are all the greater. I look forward to taking on new challenges together with you.

ADVICS will continue to strive to develop its human resources by creating an environment in which each employee can maximize their capabilities and continue to play an active role.
