Learning from Loco Solare: The "Dialogue" that Supports a Strong Team

During the roundtable discussion, there was a lively exchange of opinions on how to communicate and make decisions within a team.

At Loco Solare, they not only discuss major policies but also small daily decisions among members, prioritizing creating a system that everyone can agree on. Even if there are differing viewpoints or opinions, they don't reject them but instead accept them first. This attitude is said to lead to mutual trust and strong teamwork.

Representative Director Motohashi said, "At Loco Solare, we value the time we spend talking with each member in order to make the most of their individual strengths. Through repeated dialogue, we sometimes discover strengths that we ourselves were not even aware of."

Fujisawa also said, "Sometimes I can't answer right away when people ask me, 'What are your strengths?' But when people around me tell me, 'Sachiko's strength is ____,' it makes me want to develop that strength, and I'm genuinely happy. That's why I also try to find the strengths of my teammates and tell them about them."

Furthermore, Representative Director Motohashi stated that the team's goal is "to win on the world stage," and that he is asking each player to be committed to achieving this. Because the goal is clear, it fosters honest discussions and mutual improvement. Loco Solare is apparently using these dialogues to grow as a team, working towards the goal of winning on the world stage.

This approach to team building is also applicable to creating organizations where diverse talents can thrive. This roundtable discussion provided an opportunity to reconsider how to create an organization that respects diverse values while leveraging the strengths of each individual.

To continue challenging yourself even as your life stage changes

The discussion expanded to include life stage changes such as marriage, pregnancy and childbirth, childcare, and elder care, as well as career development. Even within the same workplace, people's situations and concerns vary greatly. That's why it's essential to have an environment where everyone can freely express their opinions and a culture of mutual understanding and support.

From our members:
"I went through a period where I struggled to balance infertility treatment and work. Because of that experience, I am now able to empathize with others who are facing similar challenges as I take on a role in promoting D&I."
"When I was pregnant and working in a manufacturing plant, I had a hard time because there was no maternity wear available. That's why I took the initiative to introduce maternity wear myself."
The speakers shared stories of how they turned their own experiences into positive actions.

Ms. Motohashi from Loco Solare commented, "That's wonderful. When I founded Loco Solare, I wanted it to be a team where people could continue playing curling even as their life stages changed. I think creating an organization where everyone can thrive without having to give up their sport or career due to reasons such as childbirth or childcare will become increasingly important."

Furthermore, towards the end of the meeting, President Akira Akiyama made a surprise appearance. He joined the conversation while enjoying interacting with the participants, and the venue became very lively. The roundtable discussion came to a close in a friendly atmosphere, typical of ADVICS.

Diverse interactions lead to new learning.

The greatest appeal of this roundtable discussion was the opportunity to speak directly with the members of Loco Solare. The mindset and experiences of top athletes who pursue success in the world of competition brought different perspectives and new insights. Participants commented that it gave them a chance to reconsider not only their own approach to team building and communication, but also their own work style and careers.

At ADVICS, we provide various training programs and lectures, as well as opportunities for interaction with external parties like this one, to broaden our employees' perspectives and help them gain new knowledge. Dialogue with people active in different fields provides opportunities to encounter new perspectives and values, leading to the growth of each individual and the evolution of the organization.

Beyond promoting D&I

At ADVICS, we are committed to creating a workplace where everyone can thrive, starting with the activities of our Women's Empowerment Working Group, "Kirari." We respect differences not only in gender, age, and nationality, but also in experience, values, and life stages, and we strive to create an environment where each individual's strengths can be utilized. That is the concept of D&I that we value.

As ADVICS celebrates its 25th anniversary, we will continue to listen to the voices of each and every employee and strive to become an organization that can transform diverse values into strengths.
